Just got home from the SCBWI Summer Conference. WOW. And I mean WOW. I'll be covering some of the writing-related sessions in my Inkygirl blog, but in these posts I wanted to talk about the Illustrator Intensive on Monday. This was a full day of craft demonstrations featuring pro illustrators, with each illustrator giving a one-hour live hands-on demo of work in progress.

Fascinating and informative to watch these illustrators at work. Even though I work digitally, I learned so much from each of these sessions. Plus it was fun to see the differences in each person's process.

I'll be sharing a few photos from each of the Illustrator Intensives. First up: Paul O. Zelinsky.

Paul O. Zelinsky had no trouble talking as he worked, but said he can't ever listen to music. "I do a lot of swearing, also," he added. I found it interesting that he uses only fluorescent lights at home ("because they make everything look crappy, so if you can make something look good, you know you have something.") He uses both warm and cool light.

Quote while he was using a hair dryer at one point: "Isn't this fun? You get to watch paint dry!"
